My hubby feels our daughter should only do ‘girl things’

Hi Rosie,

My issue is small, but can become bigger over time. My hubby is an excellent dad, just one small thing, he feels that boys can only do guy things and our daughter can only do women things. I feel that is old fashioned and they should learn to do a bit of everything. What do you think? I want well rounded kids.

Open Minded Mom

Dear Open Minded Mom,

I agree with you 100 percent! In this day and age we have to raise children who are adaptable to any situations that are thrown their way.

Girls should learn how to change a tyre, check the oil, use a screwdriver and a drill, in addition to learning the basics about general home maintenance. Boys should definitely learn how to cook, wash, clean and even babysit.

Look, one can never tell when these LIFE skills will come in handy, or even be a life saver. I remember learning how to change a flat tyre at about 13 or 14 years old, because no one else was there to help my mother and I at the time. So I am applauding you in terms of your
vision for both of your children.

Continue to lead by example, daddy will come around. This is now 2019, not 1819 or 1919, times have changed vastly and roles are now interchangeable. Good luck!

Rosie
