Have confidence in yourself

Dear Rosie,

I’m a weekly reader of your column and I see you give very good advice, so I’m asking for some for myself.

Now, Rosie, I’m a 29-year-old female and have been in numerous relationships which have not worked. I’ve read the article where a woman wrote to you and there were many replies, so I’m asking for your help, because I think you may be my last hope for my future dreams.{{more}}

I’ve been as old people say: free, single and disengaged for the past eight months. So I’m looking for someone who will love me for who and what I am. I don’t have the best of looks or body, but I’m caring and honest. It’s making me depressed because my family and friends keep laughing and saying I can’t get a man.

So if anyone replies, I honestly need the truth and they must be single.

Dear Depressed,

Now, I can hold your hand and say everything will be all right and not to listen to those negative family members and friends, but I really would not be helping you.

So what, that you are 29, and you haven’t met the right person yet? Thank God those others didn’t work out, because they were not the right persons for you, anyway! You have to take a long hard look at yourself and see if the problem really lies with you.

If you feel that you are not pretty enough, slim enough, witty enough, intelligent enough, and the list can go on and on, then that is what your life will be. That is what you are putting out to the universe! You have to get up everyday and first be thankful that you are here for another day. Then look at yourself in the mirror and tell YOURSELF how much you love you. You need to do that everyday. If you can’t do that for yourself, do you expect others, including Mr. Right to do the same?

I’ve met many, many people who are not supermodels or the brightest people for that matter, but what makes them attractive are their personalities and self-confidence. It draws people in. Again, so what that your family is saying these things to you? It’s your life we are talking about, not theirs.

Start taking care of yourself mentally and physically. Surround yourself with the positive, not the negative. Volunteer to the less fortunate. Start walking after work to get exercise and to release your endorphins. There is a direct co-relation between exercise and your mood. Before becoming someone’s partner, then possibly wife and mother, one has to be in a good place. Do not have another relationship at the moment, develop one with yourself first. This is your first step to a mega-successful life. Forget the “nay-sayers!” Peace.
