Can I get HIV from kissing my partner?

16.JUN.06

• Q: Can you get HIV from kissing?

• A: No. The HIV virus has not ever been found in saliva. However, there is a very SLIGHT risk for deep kissing if BOTH partners have bleeding gums or sores in the mouth because HIV can be transmitted through the exchange of blood. This has been documented in only one case and millions of people are kissing so when I say ‘slight risk,’ I mean slight. Would you really want to kiss someone with bleeding gums or sores in their mouth when you also have bleeding gums or sores?
