Woman gunned down at her son’s school in broad daylight
Arianna Taylor Israel, a nurse of Lower Questelles was shot and killed on Thursday afternoon.
Israel, who was born in Cuba and moved here several years ago after marrying a Vincentian, was a medical practitioner at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH).
Reports are that Israel had gone to the St Martin’s Secondary School (SMSS) at Kingstown Park around 3:30 p.m. when she was accosted and shot by someone she knows well. The person then left the scene in a grey Toyota Harrier.
“All I heard was pow, pow, pow, pow and I see people running,” a woman standing nearby said. She added that she did not see exactly what happened, but she saw the woman’s son holding her and telling persons who had shot his mom. The son is a student at the school.
Another student from the secondary institution told SEARCHLIGHT that the woman was shot by someone she knew, and the male attacker left the scene in his vehicle.
“I know them, they always come there together. They have a son that goes to the school,” said the young man who seemed angry.
Another witness said she heard the shots and as she approached the scene, she saw the woman on the ground, and she was later rushed to the MCMH where the mother of two died about an hour later.
Police on Thursday said they were on the hunt for Israel’s husband Mitch as he was the main suspect in the killing. He was later said to be in police custody.
