Driver killed, as truck overturns at Point

A 57-year-old man of Sandy Bay died yesterday, when the truck he was driving went over a cliff in the Point area of North Windward.

At about midday yesterday, Amos Gaymes lost control of blue Toyota truck TP914, which was carrying a load of arrowroot from Sandy Bay to the arrowroot factory at Owia, for processing.

According to eyewitnesses, other persons on the truck, which is owned by Stedroy Edwards of Overland, were able to jump off after they realized the driver had lost control. The driver was, however, unable to escape because of the speed at which the vehicle careened down the hill and over a cliff, eyewitnesses said.

Persons on the scene say it appeared as if the vehicle’s brakes had failed.
