Bishop, wife injured in freak accident

A freak three-way vehicular accident that took place last Sunday has left the Anglican Bishop of the Windward Islands, his wife and one other person nursing injuries.

The accident took place at 9:15 a.m. on the grounds of the Church of the Ascension at Sion Hill, just after Bishop C Leopold Friday had finished celebrating 7 a.m. mass and was about to leave.

According to police, the venicles involved in the crash were PM 15, a jeep owned and driven by John Horne of Cane Garden; PA 246, a car owned and driven by Leroy Prescott of Frenches; and PQ 442, a jeep owned and driven by Leopold Friday of New Montrose.

Police report that Horne said he was reversing, when his foot slipped off the brakes and on to the accelerator, causing his vehicle to strike the other two vehicles.

The crash occurred just as wife of the Bishop, Lois Friday, and 12-year-old Zonnique Prescott were about to enter their respective vehicles.

Lois Friday and Zonnique Prescott both sustained minor injuries and were treated and discharged from the hospital.

A release from the office of the Bishop said the Bishop and his wife are at home recuperating, he from “several bruises” and Lois from a broken ankle.
