SVG records 33rd homicide for 2017

On Tuesday, a man who earlier this year was charged with two counts of aggravated burglary and 17 counts of theft, became this country’s 33rd homicide victim for 2017.

Around 10 p.m., Kenrick “Lamar” Scott was shot in the head and killed in the Campden Park area. He died on the spot.

Scott, from Belmont and Campden Park, was killed in an area of the village known as Old Buff.

He was a popular figure in Kingstown and well liked, but rose to notoriety last March when he appeared at the Serious Offences Court and was placed on $20,000 bail, in relation to two counts of aggravated burglary and 17 counts of theft.

He was accused that on January 17 and February 13, 2017 at Villa, he entered the dwelling house of George Michael-Gopaul with a gun and stole over EC$2,500.

He also faced 17 charges for allegedly stealing over EC$17,000 from Michael-Gopaul in Kingstown from February 6 to 13, 2017. Scott allegedly stole $2,000 every day for eight days, using Michael-Gopaul’s debit card.

After his shooting, numerous persons paid tribute to the dead man on Facebook.

Scott’s killing was the second in three days and the 12th in a little over a month. Of the 33 homicides this year, 22 are firearm related.

This country is now seven homicides away from the highest homicide rate, 40 deaths, set in 2016.(LC)
