Fiddling student causes bus to plunge into wall above drain

Quick thinking by students of the Campden Park Secondary School (Bethel High School) prompted them to hop out of a tour bus on Tuesday, before it rolled into a drain at the Central Water and Sewerage Authority (CWSA).

Reports are that the students, who were accompanied by their teachers, had visited CWSA as part of the organization’s Water Week – a programme aimed at enlightening youths on climate change.

Around 1:30 p.m. on the day in question, Alwyn John, the driver of the bus that is owned by Frencina Andrews of Diamond, parked and alighted the vehicle to fetch some lunch. According to reports, this is when one of the six students on the bus began fiddling with the vehicle’s gearshift. The handbrake was also released, causing the bus, which was parked on a slight incline, to collide with a wall above the drain, while also damaging the rails of a small bridge on the compound. No one was injured.

Police are conducting investigations into the incident.(AS)
