Masked gunman shoots driver and robs him of company’s money during incident at Petit Bordel

A bandana wearing armed bandit shot and robbed a salesman from the St Vincent Brewery Ltd on Tuesday, at Petit Bordel.

The incident, which took place at around 2:10 pm, is the second time in less than three years that a salesperson from the brewery was shot and robbed of the company’s money.

The injured salesman Sterne Pope spoke to SEARCHLIGHT at the Accident and Emergency Department of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH).{{more}}

A resident of Lowmans Windward, Pope said he was doing sales on the Leeward side of the island when he stopped in the vicinity of a building owned by parliamentary representative for the area Roland Patel Matthews.

He said he had stopped to sell drinks to a shop owner in the area, and while the two other men working on the truck jumped off the vehicle to sort out the order, he remained in the vehicle.

“…I heard something explode then I feel somebody pull the door and a gunman with a red handkerchief say, ‘pass the money’,” recalled Pope.

The driver said that as he was stretching to get the bag containing the cash, the robber shot him in the right side of his tibia (shinbone) and the bullet went straight through, entered the inner side of the same area of his left leg and exited.

The assailant then made off with an undisclosed sum of money.

“I can’t feel good about this,” stressed Pope who added that he has had that job for over ten years and that was the first time that he had experienced anything like that.

“I feel he shot me to get away and so that I can’t retaliate,” said Pope who stressed that he had no way of retaliating because he does not carry a weapon of any sort.

“This thing happened so fast. At first, it look like it not real, but when I see the gun, he was pointing it at my foot all the time,” said Pope who noted that when he goes back to work, he will try to be more careful, “in a sense.”

In relation to the robber, Pope stressed, “people like that should be off the streets because couple years in prison ain’t mean they going change that lifestyle.”

On Wednesday November 20, 2013 at 3:30 pm, New Montrose resident Rudolph ‘Rudy’ McTair was shot in his right leg and robbed of an undisclosed sum of money at a shop at Glen while doing deliveries and collections on behalf of the brewery.(LC)
