Suspect charged with 2015 murder of Montrose man

After nearly five months of investigations, police last weekend made a breakthrough in the September 2015 murder of Dennis Quintyne, charging Danneke Billingy with the gun slaying of the 57-year-old Upper New Montrose shopkeeper.

Police say that on Saturday, February 20, they arrested and charged Billingy, a 28-year-old labourer of New Montrose with the{{more}} murder of Quintyne.

When Billingy, decked in all white, appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Monday, February 22, he was not allowed to enter a plea and was remanded to her Majesty’s Prison by Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias.

Billingy will reappear in court on May 18, 2016 for the beginning of the preliminary enquiry into the matter.

Quintyne, the 18th murder victim of 2015, died on Wednesday, September 30, at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH), after being shot in his shoulder and stomach on Tuesday, September 29, around 9 p.m. while hanging out with some friends near his home.

Quintyne had 14 children and had in the past run afoul of both the law and illegal gunmen and had been shot on different occasions.(LC)
