SVG records first murder for 2016

Ten days into the New Year, St Vincent and the Grenadines recorded its first murder, as Ottley Hall, a residential community on the outskirts of Kingstown erupted in gunfire around 10 p.m.

Dead is 37-year-old St Elmo Patrick Jackson.

Jackson, who is from New Montrose/Walker Piece, is said to have sustained two gunshot wounds in his back and died on the spot.

According to one of the dead man’s sisters (who did not want to be identified), Jackson, also known as Kelly, left home on Monday at around 9 a.m. and went to Edinboro, where he usually hangs out.

“He didn’t come back last night, then another brother called and told us what happened…. He don’t trouble people; he like drinking, but I don’t know who would want to do him that,” said the woman.

She said that her brother was a friendly person, who sometimes worked as a minivan conductor.

Another relative, a cousin of the slain man, said that he too has no idea why somebody would want to murder Jackson in such a manner, as the deceased did not have jewellery or huge amounts of cash on him.

“This is a mystery why this happened to him,” said the male cousin.

Police are investigating.(LC)
