Samuel aims for ‘three in a row’

Jimmy Samuel, the winner of the “VINLEC – Kenneth Ash Memorial Best Lit House” competition for the past two years, has declared that this year would be “three in a row”.

Samuel, who also won the competition in 2009 and 2010, embraced the Christmas season with his annual “lighting up” at his home on {{more}}Tuesday, which included a short ceremony for prayer and blessings.

The enthusiastic elderly man said that he once spent EC $1,100 on his light bill after the competition. Despite this, he intends to be a continual participant.

When asked what are his expectations this year, he replied, “I gone through already, mon… I’ll be the winner this year.”

The official “lighting up” took place on Tuesday, December 15, at his Rillan Hill residence.

Upon the official turning on of the lights, SEARCHLIGHT observed a number persons taking photos of the lights and decorations, which included a display of baby Jesus in a manger, a rotating Christmas tree, among other decorations along the side and front of the house.

Following the blessing, done by Father Mark DeSilva of the Rillan Hill Catholic Church, children, fascinated by the decorations, ran about playing, while adults stood around chatting and looking on.

This will be Samuel’s eighth year of participation in the competition.(AS)
