Green Hill man caught at airport with illegal drugs

The case of a Green Hill man who was apprehended at the ET Joshua Airport with a quantity of cannabis will be heard today at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court after it was adjourned from Monday.

On August 27, Kyle Small was approached by police officers from the Narcotics Division, who had been dispatched to the airport on a tip-off.{{more}} When officers searched Small’s suitcase, they found 13 black packages — one of which an officer cut into and found the illegal substance.

At the time, Small, who was booked to travel on a flight to Barbados, denied knowing how the 6,461 grams of cannabis had got into his suitcase, which also contained car freshener.

Small, who first appeared in court on Friday, August 28, was charged with possession of an illegal substance, possession of an illegal substance for the purpose of exportation, and possession with the intent of drug trafficking.

The defendant has retained counsel on the matter, which is being heard by magistrate Carla James.
