Mitres repeat Division One netball double

Western Union Mitres received, in the palm of their hands, both titles in the Division One of the Vincy Upgrade National Netball Tournament, for the second year in succession.

Mitres completed the double last Thursday, by shutting down arch rivals Vita Malt Maple in the Knockout Final, held at the Kingstown{{more}} Netball Centre.

Recording one of the larger margins of victory between the two most successful teams in the last 10 years, Mitres romped to a 63-53 winner.

This, after establishing a 16-12 lead at the end of the first quarter; then it was 38-26 at the end of the second; and 51-37 at the three-quarter way stage, before comfortably retaining the title, and a second double in as many years.

Maple, which placed second in the league competition, still had something to celebrate, as they topped the team shooting competition, tallying 119 goals from 149 attempts.

Mitres proved to be the lone dominant team in the tournament, as the other divisions were shared.

In Division Two, Hillview took the league and Star Girls – the knockout, as the positions in both competitions were reversed.

Dutch Lady Clinchers clutched the Division Three league title, while Bequia United held the knockout.

And, in Division Four, Turbo Plus Maple retained the league title; similarly, ASCO Youths repeated the knockout, having claimed it in 2014.

Turbo Plus Maple was adjudged the Most Disciplined Team, while Prime Consulting 3 J’s Valley Strikers captured the Most Improved Team.

Valley Strikers also won the innovative $200 cash award for being the team best represented at last Thursday’s closing ceremony.

This Marriaqua based outfit’s award is a $200 discount towards their registration fees for the 2016 National Club Tournament.
