Hero, Kahailia, Syxx start Vincy Mas on high note

Kingsley “Hero” Roberts, Aurella “Kahailia” Beache and Orlando “Syxx Krazi” Foster, all started Vincy Mas 2015 on high notes, after they were named winners of the New Song competition on May 2, at the Victoria Park.

Roberts, who is no stranger to the stage, beat out two other competitors in the calypso{{more}} competition on his way to the crown, with his song “3D Women”. The other two competitors, who were not given a place were Glenroy “Sulle” Caesar, with his song “Appreciate Carnival” and Cleo “Cleopatra” Hendrickson with “Sexy Gone Crazy.”

Doing the double, Orlando Foster copped his second consecutive new soca song crown with his song entitled, “Celebrate Life.” The other competitors were Mustafa “Tapha” Jackson, with “Dishonourable” and Aurella “Kahailia” Beache with “D Street.”

Beach, however, reigned supreme in the ragga soca competition, with her song “Do Supmn.” Kevin “Kev” Alleyne, with his song “Change” and Roland “Chico B” Veira, “Under the bed” were the other competitors.

This year, a new format was adopted for the competitions, as in previous years, five competitors took part in each category.

Noticably absent from Saturday’s launch was the extempo competition, which over the years, has proven to be a favourite of persons who attend the show. (KW)
