SVGS successfully defends Inter-Secondary Schools’ Athletics Championships title

Coach of the St Vincent Grammar School Rawlson Morgan has dedicated his team’s fourth successive lien on the male division of the National Lotteries Authority Inter-Secondary Schools’ Athletics Championships to those who have stood with the team.

A jubilant Morgan told SEARCHLIGHT {{more}}Wednesday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, “You see this win, this fourth one, this is for those who believe in the Grammar School … Those who called to find out how the school was doing…. This one is for them!

Morgan took time to swipe at the media unit within the Ministry of Education, who according to him, “showed no respect for the defending male champions.

“In all of their promotions leading up to today’s championships, they never used any athlete from our school in their promotion,” Morgan complained.

“But, as I told you before today, we were coming to defend our title and this we did,” Morgan boasted, as he interrupted the blowing of his green and yellow whistle.

When the heat of the day’s activities had cooled, the St Vincent Grammar School ended with 253 points, giving a good cause for the students to belt out their school song “Per Aspera Ad Astra.”

The Grammar School was heavily monitored by the Thomas Saunders Secondary, and like last year, that institution had to settle for second with 232 points.

As was the case last year, the Bethel High School placed third with 157 points.

More joy was to come the Grammar School’s way, as Shayne Lynch secured the Junior Male Champion title, with a tally of 37 points.

The other individual accolades went to the Bethel High School through Brad and Akani Slater. Brad copped the Intermediate Champion title with 30 points and Akani – the Senior Male title and Victor Ludorum, with 42 points.(RT)
