$5,000 bail for woman on fraud charges

Campden Park resident Margaret Charles is now out on $5,000 bail after she was charged with two counts of fraud.

Charles appeared at the Serious Offences Court yesterday and was not allowed to enter a plea to the charges that were laid indictably.{{more}}

It is alleged that on May 13, 2013, at the United States Embassy in Barbados, Charles presented to the consular officer, an instrument purporting to be a job letter issued by the Public Service Commissions Department.

According to the charges read in court, the instrument was signed, purportedly by then chief personnel officer Tyrone Burke.

She was charged with using an instrument which she knew or believed to be false, with the intention of inducing a Visa agent to accept it as genuine.

She is further charged with using an instrument, namely a document purporting to be a St Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Co-operative Credit Union Ltd financial statement, which was and which she knew or believed to be false, with the intention of inducing a Visa agent to accept it as genuine.

Charles was granted bail with one surety.

The matter was adjourned to June 9 for hearing. (KW)
