Several people arrested and fined for gun and marijuana possession

Close to $7,000 in marijuana fines were imposed at the Serious Offences Court yesterday — with most of them being paid.

Between Friday, December 12 and Saturday, December 13, police officers from the Rapid Response Unit (RRU), headed by corporal 723 Nolan Dallaway arrested and charged over 13 people on gun and marijuana possession charges.{{more}}

Most of the men who appeared in court yesterday, pleaded guilty to the charges, which stemmed from routine stop and search exercises carried out between Lowmans Leeward and Mt Wynne.

A handful of the men were caught with the drugs hidden in their underwear or in back packs.

Senior prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche rose to his feet and commended Dallaway and his men for a job well done.

“That is the kind of police we need. Job well done,” he said.

Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias also extended congratulatory remarks to Dallaway and his team.

“We want vigilant officers all the time. Keep up the hard work,” she said.

Dallaway, who has been in the force for the past eight years, received the award for officer of the year for the RRU, at the annual police awards ceremony held over the weekend.

“I feel really good about all of this. Me and my team will continue working hard to ensure the law is upheld in this country,” Dallaway told SEARCHLIGHT yesterday.(KW)
