Clare Valley man granted $40,000 bail

Antwone Quincy Anthony, 39, CD vendor of Questelles, was on Friday, December 12, granted bail in the sum of $40,000 on five traffic charges.

Anthony, who was released from the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) earlier that morning after being treated for hypertension, appeared at the Serious Offences Court.{{more}}

He was not required to enter a plea to the indictable offences.

Anthony is charged with causing the death of Edgar Cruickshank of Questelles, on December 6, by driving motor vehicle P119 dangerously, at Clare Valley.

Cruickshank, 78, sustained multiple injuries about his body and died subsequently at the MCMH.

At the time of the incident, the Opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) was having a political meeting in the area.

Anthony is also charged with using an uninsured motor vehicle; using an unlicensed motor vehicle; failure to renew his driving permit on his birth date and fraudulently using the identification mark P7516.

During the auto collision, 10 other people were injured and had to be taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

As part of his bail conditions, Anthony has to surrender his travel documents and must report to the Questelles Police Station on Mondays and Thursdays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Stop notices have also been placed at all entry ports around the country.

The matter was adjourned to February 5, 2015 for hearing. (Please also see police report on the incident on Page 4)
