Hat-trick win at the Christmas Music Festival for Sandy Bay Government

For the third consecutive year, the students of the Sandy Bay Government School have walked away with the top accolade at the Ministry of Education’s Christmas Music Festival.

The youngsters nabbed the Festus Toney Award for Musical Excellence, and also won Most Outstanding Original Carol and Most Outstanding Choir{{more}} (test piece) at the finals which took place on Wednesday, December 10 at the Peace Memorial Hall.

Not only did they gain the judges’ nod, they also won over the audience – who cheered heartily whenever the group performed.

Most Outstanding Instrumental was won by South Rivers Methodist School; Most Outstanding Chorale Speech/Drama went to New Prospect Primary School; and Most Outstanding Dance was won by Lowmans Leeward Anglican School.

Chief education officer in the Ministry of Education Lou-Ann Gilchrist gave brief opening remarks, expressing how “heartening” it was to see a full turnout for the finals of the festival.

Gilchrist encouraged the students to always put their best foot forward regardless of the nature of what they are undertaking.
