Woman wrapped baby in blanket and placed it in handbag
A 23-year-old woman of Colonarie has been charged with the murder of her newborn baby boy.{{more}}
JâVerne Fernandez appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Wednesday and was not allowed to plea to the indictable charge.
It is alleged that after she gave birth to the child on August 31 at her home in Colonarie, the baby was wrapped in a blanket, placed in a handbag and taken to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.
It is unclear when the child died.
Chief Magistrate Sonya Young adjourned the matter to January 8, 2014 for Preliminary Inquiry.
Fernandez, the mother of two other boys, ages three and four, will see nine witnesses testifying against her in January.
She was not represented in court.
