Queen’s eyes not set on becoming contestant in Miss SVG show

Angell John, Miss Red Dog Garage, says that she expects that winning the 2013 Miss P’tani title will have a positive impact on her academic life.{{more}}

The 17-year-old St Clair Dacon Secondary School student was crowned the 2013 Miss P’tani Rural Carnival Queen, beating out five other competitors.

Carriere resident Latoya Pitt, Miss Sunsail, took the first runner-up spot, while Aleisha Campbell, Miss Cato’s Heavy Equipment of Belair, was second runner-up.

John also won the evening wear category and the talent category, doing a monologue portraying the plight of a teenage mother.

The fourth form student said that she was confident during the show, although she thinks she could have done better at her talent.

John said that preparing for the event meant having to make a lot of sacrifices – which included having to juggle her academic life and ensuring that she was fully prepared for the night of the show.

According to the Freeland, Mesopotamia resident, she does not have her eyes set on becoming a contestant in the Miss SVG show, at least, not in the next few years.

For now, she is contented to bask in the glory of wearing the Miss P’tani crown and enjoying her reign during the next year.

She thanked her family, although she said that her parents were a bit apprehensive about her entering the show.

John said that she was also thankful to her chaperone, Shakelle Bobb and the designer of her evening gown – Volita Tucker.

Rounding up the top prizes of the night were Kizzy-Ann Black, Miss Country Meets Town, who took the Best Swimwear and Miss Congeniality awards; Pitt walked away with the prizes for Miss Photogenic and Best Interview.

The other participants of the night were Lori Jack, Miss Touch of Pearl and Angella John, Miss PKF/KDLT. (DD)
