Caesar tells Eustace to ask question in Parliament

This country’s Minister of Tourism Saboto Caesar said that he will not respond to any question posed to him via Nice Radio from Democrat House.{{more}}

Caesar expressed his position to members of the media via a written statement Wednesday, July 20, before the scheduled press conference put on by the Tourism Authority.

During a press conference on Monday, July 18, Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace disclosed certain information about the establishment of a marketing company, Lonsdale Advertising and Marketing Communications SVG Ltd, by the Tourism Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, Glen Beache, which had among its directors two persons from Lonsdale Saatchi and Saatchi, a public relations firm contracted to promote this country’s tourism product.

During the course of the Opposition Leader’s press conference, he put questions to the Tourism minister, including how much money was paid to the Trinidadian company and how much was given to the said company since Beache’s company Lonsdale Advertising and Marketing Communications SVG Ltd had been set up.

However, Caesar said that if the Leader of the Opposition had a question to ask, it should be properly placed as a question on the order paper to be addressed in the House of Parliament.

“It is within the right of the Honourable Leader of the Opposition to ask questions of any Minister as it relates to any Ministry, but there is a time, a place and a process which should be followed,” the Minister indicated in the written statement.

“The Leader of the Opposition knows better and should follow the proper protocols. The business of the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines must be addressed in the correct forum, which is in the Parliament,” the statement read. (DD)
