St. Vincent Grammar School Young Leaders top again

The Young Leaders of the St. Vincent Grammar School (SVGS) have secured the top spot in the RBC RBTT Young Leaders programme for yet another year, winning for the fourth consecutive time.{{more}}

The boys were awarded the Award of Distinction at the recent RBC RBTT awards ceremony. The ceremony took place at the Methodist Church Hall on Thursday June 9, 2011.

The Girls’ High School, who returned to the competition after a two year hiatus, copped the second position and received the Award of Excellence. The St. Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua rounded out the top three, receiving the Award of Merit for their efforts.

This years’ Young Leaders programme, under the theme ‘Water beyond the Surface, sustaining lives securing the future’ saw participation from fifteen secondary schools.

The schools actively participated in several outreach programmes, all promoting water conservation and other issues.

John Rickards of the SVGS was also awarded for being the most outstanding Young Leader, while the West St. George Secondary School received the judges’ award.

Giving words of advice to the students gathered at the ceremony, feature speaker Laura Anthony Browne shared with the young minds three things needed to secure their future. While stating the importance of a personal relationship with Christ, Anthony Browne also added that the right attitude, having a good character and having good mentorship from others, were things that would assist in having a good future.

The theme for the RBC RBTT Young Leaders competition for 2011/2012 was also unveiled: “Climate Change, Global Phenomenon.”
