The school’s march wrapped up two days of the school’s literacy activities held under the theme ‘Reading: the way Forward’. According to literacy coordinator at the school Christine Martin, this year’s activities went very well, adding that they received significant support from the parents as well.

Martin explained that each class from Prep 1 to Grade 5 was involved in activities that promoted reading. These activities included exercises on spelling, games based on letter sounds for the Prep 1 and 2 classes as well as story telling and reading. The classes from Grade one to five also participated in reading, spelling competitions, and storytelling sessions with other classes. Students also portrayed local and foreign heroes for Black History Month.

“Reading is the foundation where the children can build for the future,” Martin said, adding that reading is linked to the students writing and expression . She added that the two days of activities have been enjoyable not only for the students but also for the teachers and the parents who participated.

Martin stated that the school will continue to engage the children in activities that will enhance and improve their literacy skills. The school’s in house activities began on Thursday February 17, 2011.
