Cruickshank denies outsiders voted in North Central Windward

General Secretary of the New Democratic Party Alan Cruickshank has denied allegations that persons outside the North Central Windward constituency voted in last Thursday’s council meeting to elect a new candidate.{{more}}

Cruickshank refuted the claim that persons from the village of Dickson, in the constituency of North Windward, voted in last week’s election for a new candidate to contest the upcoming general elections.

“That’s not true,” Cruickshank told SEARCHLIGHT on Tuesday.

He added that he had the addresses and identification numbers of all those who were eligible to vote as evidence that there was no wrong doing.

According to the NDP’s general secretary, the North Central Windward council encompasses persons from South Rivers, Park Hill, Belle Vue, Byera, Chester Cottage and parts of Georgetown.

He made the point last Thursday, October 14, before the election process began, saying that as general secretary, he had the mandate from the central committee to reorganize the constituency, and that is what he had been doing.

“So within that short period, we had invited everybody to come to various venues to form back party groups,” Cruickshank said.

“Georgetown turned up, Byera turned up, and they all came together and formed the constituency division,” he continued.

“The truth of the matter is that a lot of the people who came thought that they would have voted,” Cruickshank said.

“I heard a lot of people say they came to vote, but I said no, no you talking about a general elections,” he explained, reiterating that it was only the members of the party groups which were eligible to vote who did so.

“The allegation is a rumour. There has never been an election without some controversy,” Cruickshank said. (DD)
