Spannie dies in hail of bullets at Marriaqua

Investigations are ongoing into the shooting death of 34-year-old Colville ‘Spannie’ Millington of Sion Hill who was gunned down Sunday, February 14, shortly after 4 a.m. after leaving a nightclub in Mesopotamia.{{more}}

Millington died on the spot a few feet away from the entrance to the Marriaqua Friendly Society (Bunpan) building after being shot multiple times about the body.

He was making his way to his vehicle, which was parked a short distance from the night club when a gunman opened fire.

One police source revealed that as many as 13 spent shells were recovered from the scene of the crime.

Kwjauna Hoyte of Redemption Sharpes and Kelrina James of Carriere were also shot during the incident.

Although a clear motive has not been established and the circumstances surrounding the death are unclear, at least one family member said that Millington was warned against going out that night.

“But he was a man who love to party,” Andonia Lynch told SEARCHLIGHT.

“Now look where he gone and park the vehicle. If he did park elsewhere persons would have seen,” she continued.

The emotional woman said that she got the message around 5 that morning in which she was told that Spannie had been shot.

“It is sad knowing he had to go down and leave his daughter behind,” Lynch said.

Millington has had previous run-ins with the law.

Charges laid against him for his involvement in the killing of Henry St Hillaire back in May 2000 were dropped.

Millington was also one of the eight inmates of Her Majesty’s Prisons who were charged jointly for the murder of fellow inmate Rodney ‘Dumpling’ Sutherland back in 2001. All eight were acquitted of the charge in 2002. (DD)
