Five freed, two to face High Court

Only two of the seven men accused for the murder of Atiba “Crimo” Waldron of Paul’s Avenue will have to face a murder trial at the High Court. The men appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Thursday, May 21, 2009.{{more}}

Benford Joseph, Jawanza Fraser, Orman Haddaway, Devon Charles and Kimani Williams were discharged after the Chief Magistrate Sonya Young accepted the no case submissions made by the defense.

Defense lawyers, Kay Bacchus-Browne, Carlyle Dougan QC and Grant Connell maintained that there was not sufficient evidence to connect the men to the death of Waldron. But Roland Gumbs and Marlon Stokes were not so luck, and were committed to stand trial.

Waldron was mortally wounded at a Pembroke gas station with several gun shots about his body on August 28, 2008.
