Baby girl shows first for New Year

Even though she had a Caesarean delivery, proud mother of the baby girl, Carlene Lavia, of Fitz-Hughes, said that she endured a lot of pain but was glad it was over and that she had a healthy child. “I’m happy that my child was the first born for the year,” she commented.

The 20-year-old stated that she had expected a daughter from the start. Lavia has three other children. She further noted that this would be her last child and her focus right now is to find a name for her daughter.

Orlena Lavia’s seven pound, 15-ounce baby boy, delivered at 5:31 a.m., had to settle for second place. The second time mother said she was thankful to God that she delivered her second boy safely. “I knew it was a boy, but if I didn’t get one, I would still have been thankful for what God blessed me with,” she added. As for plans for another child, Lavia is unsure.

At 11 a.m., a healthy baby boy, weighing in at a hefty 10 pounds, 10 ounces, was born to Linda Barbour, making him the third birth of the year. (KW)
