Rose Bank man dies after being stabbed

Four days after celebrating his 37th birthday, Orlando Louie’s life came to a tragic end outside a rum shop in Dark View, a tiny village just north of Rose Bank on the Leeward coast, around 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday.{{more}}

Eyewitnesses told SEARCHLIGHT that Louie was outside the shop with some friends when another man came up to him and accused him of sleeping with his girlfriend. The two then got into a short argument, during which Louie was stabbed.

Although Louie was taken to the Chateaubelair Hospital almost immediately by the ambulance that was in the area, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Louie returned to St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) four years ago, after migrating to New York while he was in Primary school. Earlier this year, Louie showed up at the Chateaubelair Hospital seeking medical attention for a head wound, which he is said to have received from the same man who is alleged to have fatally stabbed him.

Around 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Chateaubelair police, in a joint operation with officers from the Rapid Response Unit (RRU), apprehended fellow Dark View resident Simon “Robsin” Douglas in connection with the crime.

Chateaubelair Police told SEARCHLIGHT that three weeks ago they handed over Douglas to the Mental Hospital in Glen after receiving several complaints from family members. The police also said that Douglas damaged the police transport with a stone, then ran, when they went to investigate a complaint against him on Sunday.

Douglas served time in prison for stabbing Douglas Kelly to death on Christmas Day in 1987 and since then he has been in and out of prison and the Mental Hospital.

Up to press time Douglas had not been charged. He is locked up at the Layou Police Station, as the Chateaubelair is undergoing repairs. The knife allegedly used in the stabbing has been recovered.
