Masked gunman robs Internet surfer of laptop computer

The mood at the Planned Parenthood Association’s office in Kingstown was rather sombre on Wednesday, following a brazen robbery the day before, which left one of its employees hospitalized from gunshot wounds.{{more}}

On Tuesday evening at around 8 p.m., Project Monitor Patrick Prescod was shot twice in the vicinity of the old Public Library by a masked gunman who also relieved him of a laptop computer.

According to one eyewitness, Prescod was sitting in the area using his recently acquired black Compaq laptop computer at a wireless ‘hotspot’, when he was approached by an individual dressed in dark clothing, a mask and a hat.

Following a brief conversation, the bandit grabbed the computer from Prescod who was now standing, and after a brief struggle the robber pulled a gun and proceeded to shoot Prescod, hitting him in the right side.

The gunman also fired at the witness who ran to the assistance of Prescod.

The 35-year-old Prescod has been employed at the Planned Parenthood Association for the last two years and also works along with the National AIDS Secretariat, working with youth on the block and as a regional monitor for the Population Services International.

He had just returned from a Planned Parenthood session in Spring Village, and was scheduled to travel to Dominica on Wednesday for a seminar.

Precod is also an active participant in Vincy Mas as a member of the Wizards Mas band.
