Man in cutlass attack found dead

Just one day after allegedly attacking his girlfriend and burning their house to ashes Basil Bascombe, 32, of Calder was found dead.

He was found by a worker in a farm shed, about 300 yards away from the burnt out house.{{more}}

Bascombe was found lying on his face just after 6 am Thursday, January 4 wearing a khaki pants rolled up to his knees and a blue short-sleeved shirt. It is believed that he drank a poisonous substance. Pesticide were found in nearby containers.



Just over 24 hours earlier, at about 7:20 am on Wednesday, January 3, 28-year-old Eloise Rogers was rushed to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital after receiving several chops to her hand and back, allegedly from Bascombe.

Basil Bascombe’s corpse is taken away to the morgue.

At press time Wednesday a young woman of Calder was hospitalised at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in critical condition with several chop wounds about her body.

Reports claim that 28-year-old Eloise Rogers was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday, January 3, with chops to her hand and back.

It is believed this is the result of an altercation with her boyfriend Basil Bascombe of Calder at about 7:20 that morning.

The couple’s home was burnt to the ground following the incident.

It is believed that the incident was triggered after Rogers made a decision to end her relationship with Bascombe.

Reports reaching SEARCHLIGHT claim that additional incidents of chopping took place the same day at Stubbs and the previous day at Diamond.
