Jestina Charles is Regional Unsung Hero

St. Vincent’s Jestina Charles has been named the Caribbean’s Unsung Hero 2006.

FirstCaribbean International Bank panel of judges selected Charles from 250 nominees in 17 Caribbean countries.

Sir Shridath Ramphal, chairman of the Regional Panel, in commenting on the programme, noted that the panel was spoilt for choice with the excellent quality of candidate put forward for consideration.{{more}}

Charles has worn many “hats” in her lifetime – theologian, teacher, counsellor, seamstress, homemaker and foster mother. These have amounted to more than 50 years of dedicating her life to helping people. She has motivated and taught children, young adults and the elderly. She is also renowned for her assistance to the elderly and administering feeding programmes for over 30 years. She has fostered eight children and has reached out to other children with special needs. In addition to starting a number of clubs and programmes, she has consistently coordinated school programmes in a number of districts.
