22-year-old mother on murder charge

A 22-year-old mother of two young children has been charged with murder of her aunt, 42-year-old Merle Charles (below)Â last Saturday, September 30 at Sion Hill.

Kelly Ann Gilkes appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Sharda Bollers last Tuesday 3rd and heard murder charges read to her. She was remanded until November 22, when the Preliminary Inquiry is set to begin.

According to police reports Merle Charles a mother of two daughters was pronounced dead at the Milton Cato Memorial hospital, succumbing to the injuries she received due to a stab wound to the left side of her chest stemming from a heated dispute with a relative at around midday Saturday 30.
