Girls’ high school leads with 95.25% pass rate

Noting that the 95.25% pass rate at the CXC exams was an improvement from last year’s 92.1%, Principal of the Girls’ High School Andrea Bowman has expressed immense satisfaction with the results.

Bowman noted that the school achieved a 100% pass rate in 11 subject areas. English A gained 89 Grade 1’s with a 99.02% pass rate while there was also a record breaking performance in Biology with 22 Grade 1’s. The all girls school principal however expressed disappointment with the 85% pass rate for English B and hopes to start study tips with Fifth formers earlier so that they learn skills such as time management.{{more}}

Bowman said that 126 students sat the exam and 18 got 11 subjects. She however noted that five students got nine grade 1’s.

Priya Debnath got a mind boggling nine 1’s all of which were distinctions and two grade 2’s. Debnath who is vacationing in India with her family has aspirations of becoming a doctor. Priya who came first in the Common Entrance in 2001 also has her younger sister Jaya following in her footsteps; in 2005 Jaya copped the top spot for Common Entrance.

Valedictorian, Rihanna Thomas who also has dreams of being in the field of medicine advised youngsters never to give up on their dreams despite their circumstances.

Thomas who received Nine 1’s and two 2’s was disappointed with her two for Chemistry which she admits she loves, but plans to do better at the A’Level College.

Gaining 10 subjects with nine 1’s and a two was the elder daughter of Prime Minister Dr.Ralph Gonsalves, Isis Gonsalves. At her graduation in June this year, Isis was awarded the prize for being the student who best exemplified the spirit of the Girls’ High School.
