PM Speaks Out

In the aftermath of the brutal murder of his Press Secretary, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has vowed to become more outspoken.

“I am more inclined to speak my mind since they kill Glenn Jackson,” said Dr. Gonsalves at the Annual Chatoyer Wreath-Laying Ceremony on Tuesday, March 14, referring to his former Press Secretary. {{more}}

He added: “Since they believe one down and two to go, I am stepping up to the plate.”

Dr. Gonsalves said he has fewer years to live than he has already lived and at this stage of his life he was not going to be bothered by controversy. Instead he promised to be fearless.

Jackson was appointed Press Secretary in 2001. For a number of years, he used his talk show “Shake Up” to speak out and call for redress on almost every issue affecting Vincentians of every walk of life.

Addressing the gathering of persons who came out in numbers to witness the ceremony at the Obelisk at Dorsetshire Hill, Dr.Gonsalves lamented that in 2005 there were 26 murders too many, along with several cases of rape and praedial larceny. He questioned (through a live broadcast), how can the nation celebrate the life of National Hero, the Right Honourable Joseph Chatoyer, when they are killing some of their best sons and daughters of the soil.

“All these run counter to what we celebrate today,” said Dr. Gonsalves.

The Prime Minister then called on every Vincentian to lift their game if they want to emulate the National Hero, Joseph Chatoyer.
