TWO CHARGED IN INFANT’S DEATH

In a case that is certain to shock many ordinary citizens, a pregnant 20-year-old woman of Campden Park and her 22-year-old lover have been charged for the murder of her infant. {{more}}

Simone Andrews, formerly of Gomea, and Atiba Hanson, formerly of Bequia, were arrested and jointly charged Wednesday afternoon for causing the death of baby Ashante Andrews.

Baby Ashante, the daughter of the accused Andrews, was not given a chance to enjoy last Christmas as her life was snuffed out between December 22 and 24.

The one-year old appeared to have been battered and according to a police report, baby Ashante died as a result of haemorraegic shock, multiple trauma, a fractured skull, multiple lacerations to the spleen and avulsion to the spinal column.

The infant’s mother Simone Andrews and Atiba Hanson, the baby’s stepfather, were scheduled to appear before the Serious Offences Court yesterday morning.
