Farmer charged with possession of illegal firearm and ammunition

Police have arrested and charged Junior Bibby, a 25-year-old farmer of Redemption Sharpes with the offences of possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition, damage to property, resisting arrest and assault on a police officer.

According to investigations, the accused was allegedly met in possession of one .22 Revolver and six rounds of .22 ammunition without a license issued under the Firearms Act. Additionally, in the process of being detained by the police, Bibby allegedly assaulted and resisted the arresting officer who was acting in the due execution of his duty by pushing him on his abdomen and pulling away. He was also charged with damaging the officer’s jeans pants valued EC$100 by holding onto same causing it to tear in the process.

The incident occurred at Redemption Sharpes on November 7, 2020.

The accused is expected to appear before the Serious Offences Court to answer the charges stemming from the incident.
