Cop sent to prison for 11 months

A POLICE OFFICER has been imprisoned for 11 months following his conviction on official corruption, possession of Marijuana and drug trafficking charges.

Ian Jacobs was 24 years old when he was charged in 2019 that he did have, on October 13, in Kingstown, 234g of cannabis in his possession and that he had this for the purpose of drug trafficking. Subsequently, the police officer was also charged with corruption while holding a public office.

Jacobs, a resident of Chateaubelair, went through a full trial this Monday, July 13, during which he represented himself, and cross-examined his colleagues after they gave evidence.

However, in the end, the officer was convicted by Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne.

On the charge of possession of the drug he was sentenced to two months in prison; three months was handed down for drug trafficking, and Jacobs must spend 11 months in jail for official corruption.

All sentences are to run concurrently.
