Mustique resident charged with allegedly damaging another resident’s vehicle

THE PEACEFUL atmosphere of Mustique was shattered recently after the windscreen and side doors of one resident’s vehicle were broken, allegedly by another resident.

Michael Thomas, a 59-year-old resident of Mustique, was escorted to the Serious Offences Court on Tuesday, June 16.

There, he was charged with, on June 12, on the Grenadine island, damaging the windscreen, and two side doors of motor vehicle P3496 with intent so to do. The cost to replace these parts of the vehicle which belongs to Selwyn Trimmingham of Mustique, is estimated at EC$5000.

Although the defendant, who was not legally represented, entered a guilty plea at first, after the facts were read, he explained the situation.

Thomas raised a number of issues in his explanation, including the value of the property. Therefore, Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne decided the matter would go to trial, and so a not guilty plea was entered.

The prosecution raised no objection to the granting of bail in the defendant’s own recognizance. Therefore, a $1000 bail was allowed.

The matter was adjourned and transferred to the Calliaqua Magistrate’s Court, where matters related to Mustique are apparently heard, for Monday June 22.
