Accused killer returns to Court today

The accused killer of a 54-year-old man of Lowmans Windward will appear at the Serious Offences Court today, March 3 when a date will be set for a preliminary inquiry into the matter.

Frankie Joseph, 32, first appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court, last Tuesday, February 25.

There, the mason of Long Piece, Lowmans Windward was charged that he did, with malice aforethought, cause the death of labourer Henry Parsons, also of Lowmans Windward, on February 21.

Parsons died from a chop to the back of his right leg, inflicted with a cutlass.

The accused man was not required to plea to the charge, read by Senior Magistrate Rickie Burnett, and he was not entitled to bail at that point.

The matter was transferred to the Serious Offences Court, which is resuming today after a week’s break in sitting.

Following normal procedure, Joseph will be given a date for a preliminary inquiry, which is what the process is called in which the Serious Offences Court will look at the evidence, and determine whether the accused should stand trial at the High Court.
