Youth, 19, charged with armed robbery

A 19-year-old of Pole Yard has been charged with the armed robbery and attempted robbery of two medical students from the United States who reside at Arnos Vale.

Atibon Campbell was charged indictably last Thursday at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court that he, being armed with a gun, on August 6, in Fountain, robbed a male medical student of one school bag, valued US$25, which contained one black ASUS laptop, a Galaxy note 9 valued at US$800, a telescope that cost US$200, and a brown wallet containing EC$120. The total worth of the items is US$1480, and EC$120.

Campbell is alleged to have put the student in fear of being then and there subjected to force, by pointing the gun at him. The incident happened at 8:10 a.m.

The 19-year-old is also charged with attempting to rob a female student of Florida on the same date but in a separate incident which allegedly took place in Arnos Vale. This incident is also said to have occurred in the day, and a gun was said to have been pointed at the victim.

The Pole yard resident was given bail in the sum of $15,000, and told by Senior Magistrate Rickie Burnett to report to the Calliaqua police station twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays.

The matter has been adjourned to September 3, and transferred to the Serious Offences Court, where a date for the preliminary inquiry will be set.
