Arnos Vale residents charged with possession of guns and nearly 400 rounds of ammunition

A man and woman have been jointly charged with illegal possession of a shotgun and nearly 400 rounds of different types of bullets.

Sealey ‘Mickie’ Matthias, a 56-year-old mason, and Francella ‘Fatty’ Thomas, a 52-year-old self employed woman, both live in Arnos Vale, and they are both charged with having these illegal items without a license contrary to the Firearm’s Act, on July 7 at Arnos Vale.

Matthias and Thomas both pleaded not guilty to possession of a 12 gauge shotgun serial number W715154, 107 rounds of .40mm bullets, 200 rounds of .22mm, 31 rounds of 12-gauge, 25 rounds of .38mm, 10 rounds of 9mm, six rounds of .44mm, 12 rounds of .357mm, two rounds of .32mm and three rounds of .380mm bullets without a license.

Matthias is further charged that he had with him in Stubbs, on the same date, July 7, one Smith and Wesson .40 pistol and 10 rounds of .40mm ammunition without a license under the Firearms Act.

Matthias was to be sentenced yesterday at the Serious Offences Court after he pleaded guilty at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday to the two offences which allegedly occurred at Stubbs. However, yesterday he changed his plea to not guilty.

Both individuals are represented by counsel Michelle Fife.

The bail for the two was set at $50,000 at the Serious Offences Court, and reporting conditions to the Central Police Station every Monday and Friday were attached to this.

The two will return to the court on October 1.
