Mother slapped with two counts of abandonment

The Mother of the four children recently entrapped in a burning house was slapped with two counts of abandonment yesterday.

Twenty-eight-year-old New Montrose resident, Tamara Lavia, was charged that she did abandon Sinrique Lavia, an eight-month-old, of New Montrose, he being a child under the age of two. She is also charged with abandoning Simonique Lavia, an 18-month-old, of New Montrose, she also being a child under the age of two.

The mother pleaded not guilty to the charges laid against her, but prosecutor Adolphus Delplesche objected to her bail.

He stated that investigations into the matter were ongoing. The incident having resulted in the death of an infant, a post mortem is due to be carried out presently.

Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias decided to remand Lavia in custody.(KR)
