Two arrested in connection with cell phone robberies

Two alleged cellphone robbers, who appeared in court this Monday, face at most, the possibility of jail time and at least, a long examination by the court system.

Nigel Cain is charged with on November 17 in Sion Hill, robbing one Latisha Williams of Rockies, armed with a gun. Williams was relieved of one Sony Xperia cellular phone, a lady’s handbag worth $80, a body spray, a ladies purse, an ATM card and $23.50 in cash, together amounting to $1,184.50.

Cain is also charged in conjunction with one Akeem Laidlow, that on November 2, they did steal a white Samsung Galaxy worth $450, one black wallet valued at $10, containing one ID and one National Insurance card, among other documents, worth an unknown amount. These items were the property of one Andrae Kydd of Murray’s Village.

The two were not required to plead to either offence, the charges being laid indictably against them.

The prosecution did not object to bail for Laidlow, but wished for a curfew to be imposed on him, considering the offences had taken place at night. Prosecutor Adolphus Delplesche objected to bail for Cain, given he had two charges for robbery facing him already. He also cited the upcoming tourist season as a reason to deny bail, given the defendant’s habits.

The Chief Magistrate, Rechanne Browne, denied bail to Cain, but granted bail in the amount of $6,000 to Laidlow, with one surety and a curfew imposed between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The matter will begin be heard on February 12, to decide whether there is sufficiency of evidence for it to be heard by the High Court.(KR)
