Two residents of Diamond have been arrested on ammunition and firearm charges.

Amanda Williams and Eton Timm were arrested at Diamond on October 29 and charged yesterday, October 30, with three firearm related offences.

This is the third arrest made by police with regard to illegal firearm offences at Diamond, since a recent shooting which saw the death of one man and the wounding of eight others at the Road Side Bar at Diamond on October 14.

Ekron Jackson and Romarion Bynoe appeared in court, charged with possession of illegal ammunition on October 18 and October 17 respectively.

Williams and Timm were charged before magistrate Zoila Browne at the Calliaqua Magistrate’s Court. Both pleaded not guilty to the illegal possession of a shotgun, a .32 revolver and one round of 12-gauge ammunition without a licence for such under the Firearms Act.

Browne granted the duo bail of $30,000, with the condition that all their travel documents are surrendered to the court and stop orders placed at all ports against them.

However, Browne was not satisfied with the documents of the surety for the defendant Timm. Grant Connell, lawyer for the defendants, attempted to have the surety accepted by intoning that the surety was “gainfully employed and capable of getting a loan,” and that the court always takes a risk when it comes to granting bail, for every facet of bail, including stop orders, which he described as “porous”. He insisted that she would fulfill her duty to the court.

Browne thanked Connell for his submissions, but stated that she was not satisfied with the documents presented. Therefore, at the time of publication, Timm was remanded in custody.

The duo is set to return to court on January 9, 2018.
