Man sentenced to five months for cannabis possession

An habitual offender received a five-month prison sentence on Wednesday, after he pleaded guilty to intent to supply cannabis.

Patrick Nero was charged on October 3 with intent to supply cannabis, after two bags of the controlled substance were found in his possession, one containing 183g and the other 195g.

Nero consented to a search of his shop in Kingstown by the police, who found both bags of cannabis on the premises.

When he appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Wednesday, Nero asked Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias not to give him a prison sentence.

The Chief Magistrate, however, denied his request, saying he had been given many chances already and his record was “horrible”.

Nero was then given sentences of four months and five months in prison, to run concurrently.(KR)
