One man and two secondary school students appeared yesterday before the Serious Offences Court on a charge of burglary of items worth over $600.

Cardell Jacobs and two boys who attend the Union Island Secondary School appeared before the Serious Offences Court on a charge of burglary of a private home in Cambell, Union Island.

The three are charged with entering the dwelling house of one Ambrose, between the dates September 20 and 21, and stealing three bags of rice, seven bottles of peanut butter, one bottle of liquid soap, 13 bottles of peanuts and a number of other items, amounting to $637. Jacobs and one student pleaded not guilty to the offence, while the other student pleaded guilty.

Jacobs was denied bail, due to ongoing investigations, which is to be reviewed on October 2, up to which time he is remanded in custody.

In the case of the two secondary school students, the Chief Magistrate chose to grant them bail of $2,500 and release them to the custody of their parents, in conjunction with the enforcement of a curfew between 5 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The Chief Magistrate asked the schoolboys to focus on their schoolwork, saying they should be on their way to university by now.

The matter was adjourned to October 19, when it will be heard before the Union Island Magistrate’s Court.(KR)
