Man charged with attempting to kill his sister, granted bail

A man accused of attempting to murder his sister, was last Friday given bail in the sum of EC$30,000.

Cassian Pereira appeared before Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias at the Serious Offences Court, charged that he tried to murder his sister, Tamasia Pereira, by attempting to chop her on her neck with a cutlass in Dickson Village on Thursday, August 24.

Tamasia blocked the chop with her hand.

Cassian is on remand, as during his first court appearance, the prosecution told the court that Tamasia fears her brother.

However, last Friday, senior prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche said that the prosecution had no further objection to Cassian’s bail.

The accused was placed on EC$30,000 bail with one surety. As part of his bail conditions, he must report to the police twice per week and hand over his travel documents.

“He look like he going anywhere?” commented Cassian’s lawyer in relation to the seizure of his client’s travel documents.

Cassian, however, told the court that he had no travel documents. His bail bond, however, had not been signed when court ended on Friday.
