More charges laid against former police officer

Elron Lewis may very well have counted his chickens before they were hatched.

Last Tuesday, shortly after prosecutors withdrew 25 charges of deception which had been brought against him, Lewis told SEARCHLIGHT that the media had tarnished his reputation in publishing that he had been charged, and they should also carry the story that the charges against him had been dropped.

Lewis told SEARCHLIGHT that he returned the money that he got from the seven persons and as a result, they withdrew their complaints against him.

But last Friday, the same day the story was published, Lewis, a former police officer, was again hauled before the Serious Offences Court to answer three more charges of deception.

He is charged that he did deceive Aretha Baptiste of Mesopotamia of $1,042 in July. Lewis was granted bail in the sum of $2,000 with one surety and he is to report to the Rose Hall Police Station Mondays and Fridays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

His matter has been adjourned to October 23.(JWC)
